Unseelie Court: Vanity

The seventh and final of my “Seven Deadly Sins” collection of my “Unseelie Court” series – “Vanity!” This is part of my Seven Sins subseries of my Unseelie Court collection, this one of course is the allegory for “Vanity.”  When it comes to sins, “Vanity” and “Pride” are traditionally used interchangeably, but I feel “Pride” now has more positive connotations (with a few obvious exceptions), but “Vanity” seems to be more negative, hence my decision on the final title and more contemporary relevance.

As with all my Unseelie Court pieces, there is a combination of Art History depictions of “vanity” as well as some contemporary ones (yep, painted those emojis by hand). You’ll see Waterhouse’s “Narcissus”, a bit of Hieronymus Bosch, joyful yellow bookjacket from the original “Vanity Fair,” a portrait of Dorian Gray, the “All is Vanity” skull/young lady optical pun, and various other inside jokes that at least make me giggle to myself.  I’ve painted her with a more ethereal feeling to capture the transience and futility of vanity, snapping a selfie of course.  As of this writing, the original painting is hanging at the Corey Helford Gallery in downtown Los Angeles as part of their 15th anniversary group show.

Original painting is acrylic on a 16″x20″ panel, beautifully framed at 31″x27″ and priced at $7200 and is available from the Corey Helford Gallery here or call (310) 287-2340 – the Corey Helford Gallery is happy to ship worldwide and can often work with payment installment plans etc.

We have prints & canvases available here at Strangeling, as well as full sets of all Seven Deadly Sins (and my preceeding Unseelie Court series featuring the four horsemen of the Apocalypse.  Be sure to check out the others in the Unseelie Court series on this site!

Glossy Photo Prints

All Glossy Photo Prints are printed on a glossy photo paper with Canon Lucia archival inks and signed ON THE BACK by ME, the artist. Small prints are printed on 8.5 x11″ sheets and large prints on 13×19″ sheets, but the printed area will reflect the odd dimensions of the painting itself. When you select the print size and type that you want to purchase, the Printed Area Dimensions will appear below your selection. Please note the dimensions to make sure that the print you select is a size that will work for your needs. We cannot provide custom print sizes at this time. What you see offered is what is available.

About the Canvas Prints

We currently have both Masterpiece Limited Edition Canvases (16″x 20″, hand embellished, signed & numbered out of 5 at $595 each) and Open Edition Canvases (12″x16″ with a signed certificate at $125 each) available. All canvas prints are made on canvas with Canon Lucia archival inks. They are wrapped on boards and stretched over a frame and shipped ready-to-hang. The canvas sides are printed in black, creating a natural self-framing effect, so you don’t have to purchase an additional frame if you don’t want to. The entire piece is also painted with a UV varnish and then heat set for maximum protection and longevity. They are truly beautiful pieces and it is often difficult to tell them apart from the originals. Both types are on the deeper/thicker gallery wrapped boards than our earlier canvases have been, very sturdy and solid, and match the profile of those that are sold at Pop Gallery, etc. If you have any questions about the canvas prints or the differences between the Masterpiece Limited Editions and the Open Editions, please contact us!
