Princess Aurora

Princess Aurora is the painting that the Walt Disney Company contracted me to do as a special debut for the 2017 Disney D23 Expo!  I was very happy to have the opportunity to paint her.  She is of course Princess Aurora in her “Briar Rose” guise, from Disney’s 1959 animated masterpiece “Sleeping Beauty.”  She truly was a joy to paint, so much colour and detail in this one.  I was able to reference a lot of the original Disney concept artwork which inspired this piece – particularly that of Disney Legend Eyvind Earle (one of the true masters of American illustration from the past century, both his Disney and personal work is amazing), and Mary Blair (love her!) which contributes a very classic feel blending with my own contemporary look.   I adore all the little critters & birdies in Sleeping Beauty (especially the Owl!) and did my best to include quite a few o f them in this painting.  Disney debuted the original painting at their D23 Expo in Anaheim as part of the Disney Dream Store, the original painting has sold. Prints, merchandise and Limited Edition Canvases were available EXCLUSIVELY through Disney.
