Join Jasmine in Africa – March 2019 – for an Art Safari Adventure!

A Very Special Update…

Those of you at Patreon saw this coming, but to everybody else – here’s the big news!

(EDIT:  some spots have already been taken as of 4:00PM EST, so if you are in any way interested in potentially going – please email [email protected] asap so they can start planning!!)

Anybody want to come with me to Africa in 2019?  I’m returning, this time to run my own “Art Safari!” ALL the details are here (or just Google Jasmine Becket-Griffith African Art Safari ) and the full itinerary is available as a PDF available here  Everybody is welcome, whether you are an artist, want to be an artist, just happen to like art, or just want to go on vacation with me & Matt to Africa for a couple weeks!

Email [email protected]  if you are in any way interested, they can hold  a spot for you  (that’s my friend who runs the tours, not my husband Matty, hehe).

This will be in March 2019 – we have plenty of time to plan and to save $$ =)

There is a limit of 20 students/travelers, so even if you are only *slightly* interested, let [email protected]  know asap.

I went to Africa last year (South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia) with some musician friends with the same tour group, on a music themed safari.  Matt (from Tourica tours) has invited me to come back and this time hold an Art workshop themed safari.

For a photographic odyssey courtesy of my brother-in-law Paul Andrews – he has posted photographs he took when we went on last year’s trip to Africa together with our musician friends.  Click HERE to see them (he is a professional photographer so they are glorious photos to entertain you either way!)   Of course instead of Robyn playing concerts, our trip will have me doing artsy stuff, painting, optional workshops, etc. – but we will be visiting much the same itinerary (with the exception of some of the Johannesburg photos at the top of the page, as our trip will be slightly shorter).

Tourica Tours (I can speak from experience both as a customer, friend & client) do a simply amazing job of creating a laidback but luxurious, hassle-free way of traveling around Africa.  I can’t wait to go back!

I’ll be doing lectures, live painting demonstrations, art workshops, etc. throughout the tour.  My husband Matty of course will be coming too (he has never been to Africa and is super excited).  We’ll stay in a variety of different lodgings – luxury Safari “glamping”, nice hotels/apartments in Cape Town, fun boat rides down the Zambezi, a few nights right by Victoria Falls (one of the most stunning places I have ever been), & more.  The safari drives are amazing, you will see all the animals you would expect to see & then tons more, all out in the wild!  (Some of you might remember my elephants story…… 😉 )

It ain’t cheap, but it is truly a trip of a lifetime and worth every single penny & then some.  The accommodations are super nice, food everywhere is great (I’m vegetarian and had all sorts of great veggie options everywhere).  Let me see – it’s at $6999 which means if you can set aside $10 – $12/day until the trip, lol, you’d have it covered…. plenty of advance notice!  ;P

ALL the details and FAQ are on the official website here

The full itinerary is available as a PDF available here

Again -email [email protected]  if you have any travel or tour related questions.

Please feel free to ask me (email me at [email protected] , don’t respond only to this mailing list update as I may not see it, just email me at [email protected] ) if you have any questions for me about the art side of things, or about the places we’ll be visiting (as these are all places I love and have mostly visited before in person!).

I hope some of you are able to join me!  Again, while it is art themed you do NOT have to be an artist, this is for all skill levels and you can choose however much you would like to participate (or not).  The photography opportunities on this vacation are amazing, even just with an iPhone you can get fantastic images.  Or just bring your colouring books and colour along while I’m painting =)  I’ll be staying in the same hotels, eating at the same table, sitting in the same van, etc. as you all (and Matty of course) so I’m looking at this as a great way to meet some of you in person, get to be friends and have a magical journey.

Check out Tourica Tours on Facebook or Instagram @touricatours ,or again, my brother-in-law Paul’s photos from our last vacation Click HERE) to get a great sense of what we will see & do on this adventure!  We saw everything from wild penguins to lions, from Victoria Falls to the Cape of Good Hope.

XO
Jasmine

Work-in-Progress for Corey Helford Gallery

Corey Helford Gallery Work In Progress

Work-in-progress! A little farther along now – for a group show opening January 24 at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, CA. Most of the basic shading & sketching is all done now, I’m starting to lay in more small details and layers of colour. It’s a circular painting with a circus theme – called “Bosch Circus” for the show “Freaks & Americana”. This piece is inspired by the circus history in my own family (a troupe of aerialists from early last century known as the Flying Behees ) and of course some phantasmagorical animals and performers inspired by Hieronymus Bosch (from considerably earlier). This painting will debut at the opening reception at CHG Circa on January 24th from 7-10PM. Participating artists include: Kukula, Colin & Sas Christian, SHAG, Ron English, David Stoupakis, Michael Hussar, Tom Bagshaw, Yosuke Ueno, me of course, and many more wonderful artists. I probably won’t be able to make it out there in person for that evening, but definitely drop by if you can! This original painting is acrylics on panel, will be in a handcarved frame, and will be priced at $8200. Prints will also be available soon!

“Eve and Rib” sneak preview!

instagrameveandribwip
Work-in-progress! I’m working on the sequel to my “Strangeling” book, again featuring short stories – piece I’m painting now is an illustration for Matthew David Becket’s (my husband – here he is on Facebook ) short story (which will be published in the book, along again with stories by my sisters Kachina & Amber). The book will be out 2015 and is published by Blue Angel. This painting is called “Eve and Rib” – a clockwork fairy and her animated skeleton boyfriend in the forest – a lovely story indeed. The same characters appear in the book Matt recently finished (yet unpublished). This original painting is available for sale – if you are interested in purchasing it, email me at [email protected] with the subject line “Eve and Rib Original” – it is 12×16 acrylic on panel, will come in a spectacular ornate frame, and will be priced at $4400. Prints & canvases will be at strangeling.com soon!

More details about the Strangeling book will follow soon (and if you haven’t already gotten the first Strangeling art book, go get it HERE – deluxe hardcover version is at Amazon HERE and Strangeling.com too).

Strangeling T-Shirts

First Batch now up in our Etsy Store HERE

After several months of trying different methods, rigorous washing machine endurance tests, and my whole family pitching in, we’re pleased to announce that Strangeling T-Shirts are in the works!

I have long wanted a high quality t-shirt option for my work, and we have decided to produce them ourselves, at home, using a special dye-sublimation technique.  This is the method that works best and provides us with the best quality – the images hold up to our tough “washing machine test” (ie, putting them in the washer & dryer over & over again) without fading, cracking, etc. like some other methods, and we are very happy with it.

Very soon we will be implementing an option to place orders for tshirts in ALL SIZES (yes, plus sizes, kids’ sizes, extended sizes, juniors’ sizes, etc.), with options to choose all sorts of coloured shirts (black shirts, white shirts, tie-dyed and patterned shirts, – our sublimation transfer process works perfectly on all of them).  Prepare for an announcement soon when this is launched – it will mean that you can choose your own size, colour, etc. for whichever painting design you like!

In the meantime though, while we wait for incoming shirt stock and website-admin shenanigans,  we are listing a handful of these new shirts (our first finished batch of prototypes) in our Etsy store.  They are already selling fast, and I apologize in advance if we are already nearly sold out.  This initial batch is just our test-market of various sizes, shapes, colours & images – again, in the future at Strangeling.com we will be implementing a launch site where you can choose your own sizes, etc.  In the meantime check out what we have up on Etsy HERE – click on the “CLOTHING” link at the top left hand corner of the screen to find whatever shirts we have available!  (And check out all the other neat jewelry, prints & stuff too of course).

Disney Preview – “Tangled”

One of the paintings debuting at Disneyland’s WonderGround Gallery
for my July 12-13 Event – details HERE

Another Disney piece – Rapunzel from Tangled! Sneak-peek – a few hours away from finishing still – this is a piece for Disneyland’s WonderGround Gallery in California – I will be debuting her on July 12 & 13th – I’ll be there BOTH days this time (details about the event are HERE). I’ve had the joy of sorting through a lot of the original concept art from Disney’s “Tangled” going back several years, and as some of you Disney-scholars out there may know, part of the film’s aesthetic was based on Fragonard’s “The Swing” (obviously one of my favourites too).

This scene features the iconic image of Disney’s Rapunzel in a swing of her own hair, and of course the little chameleon Pascal is up in the branches 16×20 acrylic painting on panel, the original painting, prints & merchandise will be available at WonderGround Gallery.

These will be WonderGround Exclusives for purchase only from the gallery at Disneyland (and YES they are happy to ship WORLDWIDE via email or phone orders). Also the entire month of July WonderGround will be having a special “Artisan Showcase” fetauring a month long display of my non-Disney personal art as well (I’ll just be there in person on July 12-13 though, so try to stop by if you are in California that weekend!). ©Disney – licensed and used under contract.

eBay Options for Jasmine/Disney

Want to find my Disney stuff on eBay? Follow my Disney Collection HERE

I know that a lot of you are eBayers, and a lot of you are wanting to collect my Disney art & merchandise, so I have created a special “Jasmine/Disney eBay Collection” page on eBay HERE

Basically, my Disney art is only sold by Disney (whether it be at Disneyland, Disney World, the various Disney galleries, or Disney branded Hamilton Collection products, etc.).  As licensed/contracted work, I can’t make & sell them myself.  A lot of my Disney artwork & merchandise is exclusive to WonderGround Gallery out in California, and I myself am way down here in Florida, so I can’t really go grab stuff to re-sell myself either for fans.  But – a lot of people who DO live in California very helpfully regularly stop at the gallery at Disneyland to buy stuff to re-sell on eBay (yes, at a little increase in price, but hey – that’s what makes their travel time/costs worthwhile!).

Every day we scour eBay and gather together these auction listings to helpfully put them all in on eBay Collection page ( HERE) – so you can find all of this stuff in one spot.  These are all different sellers, they are not being sold by me, they all have different payment & shipping options, etc. – but they are all authentic Jasmine Becket-Griffith / Disney products.  If you bookmark or “Follow” the collection pagehere, you can see the new stuff as it comes out, updated with new auctions daily.

For those of you who do not use eBay, always remember that WonderGround Gallery is happy to ship worldwide, and they now take orders via email – [email protected]  – and telephone (714) 781-4565.

This Saturday at Pop Gallery

The event is held from 7pm-10pm, it is a free event, we will have prints, canvases and original paintings available (glossy paper prints from $20, canvases from $95, also free postcards!), loads of other artwork & merchandise, and the highlights of the show – the debut of my two latest Disney paintings – “Part of Your World” (featuring Ariel) and “Belle’s Royal Portrait” (featuring Princess Belle from “Beauty and the Beast”).

Ariel – Little Mermaid – Work-in-Progress

partofyourworldwip1

Work-in-progress! Another new Disney painting, very early stages – featuring Ariel from The Little Mermaid – this time for the Pop Gallery & Bradford Exchange part of Disney. I’ve basically “sketched” (in brown, grey, black & white paint & water, with a very tiny brush) out the scene, mostly focusing on the details of the main characters – Ariel, Sebastian and Flounder. I’ve refined this “sketch” in paint several times, covering up what I don’t want with opaque paint, strengthening lines I do want in darker paint. Now I’m starting to lay in washes of watered layers of colour, mostly for myself just to figure out where I’m going with the colour palette & figuring out my light source (mostly coming in from the top down through the grotto underwatr), etc. I’ve done a bit of shading on Ariel, but nothing much more than that. Many more hours to go, I’ll post another work-in-progress pic later. This is one of the pieces that will debut at my May 3rd event at Pop Gallery Orlando here at Downtown Disney in Florida! The original painting & giclees will be available at Pop Gallery, giclees & other merchandise will also be available online & through the Hamilton Collection/Bradford Exchange. This is an original acrylic painting, 16×20, will be in a big gorgeous ornate frame and priced at $6400 – if you are interested in purchasing the original please contact Pop Gallery at [email protected] or call them at: 407-827-8200 and ask to be put on the Jasmine VIP List for “Part of Your World” – Jasmine’s Little Mermaid painting. Licensed & ©Disney.

Work-in-Progress “Stardust Angel”

stardustangelwip

Work-in-progress!  Almost done – this painting – “Stardust Angel” is for an upcoming group show at the Eight and Sand Gallery in Seattle, WA – the theme of the show is “Stardust”, and I’m just now working on some of the glimmering stardust / galaxy imagery on this lovely girl.  The “Stardust” show will run from April 12-May 9 at Eight and Sand Gallery in Georgetown, Seattle. If you are interested in the original painting, contact the curator Alex at [email protected] – let her know you are interested in being on contact list for “Stardust Angel” by Jasmine Becket-Griffith. This original painting is acrylics on an 8×10 oval, will be in a silver frame and will be priced at $2200.

Tableaux Vivants I Work-in-Progress

tableauxvivants1wip1

Work-in-progress!  The first in a new series I’m working on called “Tableaux Vivants” (living pictures) – a surreal incorporation of my traditional female figurative portraits along with tiny magical scenes from historic or mythological imagery.  This first painting features the Triumph of Galatea with a rococo portrait – I really love how it’s turning out, got few more hours of work left.  She will debut at MegaCon (here in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center March 21-23, I’m at booth 814-816), is on a 12×16 panel going into super crazy ornate rococo frame – 27″x31″ external measurement – and will be priced at $4500.  If you are interested in the original painting, email me at [email protected] – preference will be given to MegaCon attendees but we are putting together a collectors’ inquiry list to contact if she remains unsold after the show.

This painting features one of my favourite creatures – trilobites! I collect their fossils, and enjoy painting pictures of them. I love this piece, be sure to look for it in my upcoming Water themed Oracle deck.
