Alice in a Van Eyck Portrait

$16.99$125.00

“Alice in a Van Eyck Portrait” is the title – this is my favourite Alice in Wonderland painting I’ve done yet, and is probably the best painting I’ve done so far. Currently the record breaker on the longest time spent on one piece (72 hours over 4 days)! This is the sixth painting in my sub-series called “Alice in Other Lands” which are paintings featuring Alice in a variety of unusual circumstances, thrown into settings inspired by my love of art history (be sure to check out the others in my gallery). Here we have my Alice on the set of another one of the most beautiful and famous paintings in the world – “The Arnolfini Portrait” from the distant year 1434 by Jan van Eyck. This is of course my version, painted completely from scratch & by hand (lol, I’m proud!). In my painting, Alice is playing the part of the bride, and my “Alchemist” character (he reoccurs in a lot of my paintings and always wears the Plague Doctor mask, which I thought was appropriate to the time period!). There are other hints of Alice, from her blue dress to the mushrooms hidden throughout the piece, but as usual my favourite part is the unabashedly grinning Cheshire Cat who has replaced van Eyck’s original doggie. I saw the original Arnolfini portrait during my first visit to London the National Gallery and it was so beautiful I just started crying, it is a very important piece to me. Celebrating my loves of Alice in Wonderland and gothic/renaissance art – no reason why the two shouldn’t go together! I’ve always thought that Alice’s adventures should continue into many other bizarre tales, and you can expect to see more from me in the future. This is my own original acrylic painting, completely painted by hand on a wood/masonite panel.

Limited Edition Canvas Prints are SOLD OUT. However, we have now released the Open Edition Remarqued Canvas Prints – they are truly the next best thing. They are the same high quality canvases stretched on boards & ready to hang, but are open edition. This means that they are not numbered, not dated, not signed by Jasmine, not embellished by Jasmine in paint. They are however remarqued with metallic ink on the front with the official JBG seal/remarque (as shown in the photo), and come with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Jasmine herself. The open edition canvases are shaped a bit differently than the sold-out Limited Editions, they are 12″x18″ and are on thicker stretcher boards, so they are a bit deeper. Open Edition Canvases ship from our Kansas location.

Glossy Photo Prints

All Glossy Photo Prints are printed on a glossy photo paper with archival inks. A 1/2″ white border is included around the printed area of the artwork for all prints with the exception of Fine Art Mini Prints which are cropped to a 4″ x 6″ size exactly. When you select the print size and type that you want to purchase, the Printed Area Dimensions will appear below your selection. Please note the dimensions to make sure that the print you select is a size that will work for your needs. We cannot provide custom print sizes at this time. What you see offered is what is available.

Open Edition Canvas Prints

These prints are made on canvas with archival inks and varnished with a UV resistant finish. They are gallery-wrap style — wrapped on boards, stretched over a frame and are shipped ready-to-hang. The canvas sides are printed in black, creating a natural self-framing effect, so you don’t have to purchase an additional frame if you don’t want to. The entire piece is also painted with a UV varnish and then heat set for maximum protection and longevity. They are truly beautiful pieces and it is often difficult to tell them apart from the originals. The open edition canvases are on deep gallery wrapped boards. The Open Editions are set to a specific size format and there may be some slight cropping around the edges from the original artwork.

Masterpiece Edition Prints

Each Masterpiece Edition is hand-embellished and signed by Jasmine. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery. We first have to make the canvas prints, ship them to Jasmine to hand-embellish, return them to our fine art printer to be stretched, packed and then shipped to you. This process is rather time consuming, so we appreciate your patience.
